Why choose mindsurgerylondon?
When choosing to embark on therapy, we can be faced with a bewildering array of choices and titles - psychotherapist, counsellor, CBT therapist, Clinical Psychologist ..?
It is important for you to know that anyone can call themselves a psychologist or a therapist, with training that might be a course of a few days duration. For this reason, the Health & Care Professions Council was set up to protect the public. The HCPC created protected titles, which means that health professionals can only use certain titles if they meet the stringent standards set out by the HCPC. The title Clinical Psychologist is protected by law - it is illegal for anyone to use this title unless they are registered with the HCPC and meet their standards. This means that you can have peace of mind that Mind Surgery meets the high standards set by the HCPC.
The Health & Care Professions Council
The HCPC exists to protect the public, keeping a register of health and care professionals who meet their standards for training, professional skills, behaviour and health. Please see the HCPC website for further information.
The British Psychological Society
The BPS is a representative body promoting excellence and the highest standards of ethical practice in psychology. It is a voluntary organisation whose members aspire to the highest possible ethical and professional standards. Only chartered members can use the title CPsychol.
Clinical Psychologists are experts in mental health problems, and have completed a three year doctoral training programme as well as an undergraduate degree in Psychology. It takes an average of 10 years to become a Clinical Psychologist. Clinical Psychologists are trained in a number of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Evidence based therapy means that scientific research has been carried out testing whether the particular type of therapy has been effective with people and helped them with their problems.
The advantage of being trained in a variety of approaches means that Clinical psychologists can offer an integrative approach to understanding and helping you with your problem, not just offering a 'one size fits all approach'. To paraphrase the American psychologist Maslow, 'if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail'.
Clinical Psychologists have training in scientific research methodology. Many clinical psychologists carry out research in their area of expertise, thus contributing to the evidence base in psychology. It also means that Clinical Psychologists are equipped with the skills necessary to evaluate research in the field of mental health and incorporate this into their practice.
At Mind Surgery London we use a range of evidence-based therapies including: Cognitive behavioural therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness based therapies, Solution Focused Therapy.
Mind Surgery London is a progressive practice, always keeping abreast of latest research and advances in the field of psychology.
